MEET THE FOUNDER

Aseel Soueid

Embracing each day as a triumph over adversity has become second nature to me. I am Aseel Soueid, a Type 1 Diabetic (T1D) for over 24 years. I embarked on the journey to establish a nonprofit organization close to my heart, driven by my passion to make a positive impact.

As founder of DIABEATIT, it is my goal to offer ample insulin supplies, aiming to alleviate the daily concerns and uncertainties for my fellow Type 1 Diabetics, allowing them to lead a more carefree life.

As a child, grappling with the realization that I could not change or erase my Type 1 Diabetes was a source of discomfort. Confusion, feeling lost, and  discouraged… I know these feelings. I’ve lived that way for so long. Growing up, I often felt like the 'odd one' in the group. At the time of my diagnosis, the doctor  conveyed a disheartening message to my family and me, asserting that I would never regain a sense of normalcy. I never possessed exceptional genetics or a natural talent  for sports, and truth be told, I harbored a persistent fear of engaging in physical activities due to my Type 1 Diabetes.

Upon entering middle school, a profound shift occurred in my mindset—I grew weary of holding myself back. Eager to break free from self-imposed limitations, I embraced swimming and martial arts. Witnessing the rapid progress in these sports became an eye-opener, boosting my confidence significantly. Regardless of the circumstances, I dedicated myself to rigorous training, witnessing improvement each passing day. Representing one of the best teams in the state in swimming left me hungry for more.

At the age of 16, I stumbled upon a weightlifting/bodybuilding magazine that sparked a new fascination. Observing the strength and confidence displayed by the individuals featured, I pondered why I could not attain a similar physique and dedication to the gym. I posed a question to myself: "Is my Type 1 Diabetes a barrier?" Determined not to let it hinder me, the very next day, I secured a gym membership—an unforgettable turning point. As I lifted weights for the first time, I found myself captivated by the pursuit of self-improvement inherent in the sport.

This initiation marked the beginning of an addiction to the relentless pursuit of progress. Immersed in extensive research on training and nutrition, I uncovered insights about my body that allowed me to better manage my Type 1 Diabetes.

Determined to overcome the challenges posed by Type 1 Diabetes, I set out on a personal mission to become the best version of myself. After two years of intense training and continuous learning, a desire to extend my impact emerged. I aimed to reach out to those who, like me years ago, found themselves trapped in the web of confusion, depression, anxiety, and a sense of hopelessness.

Taking action, I launched my own YouTube channel with the intent to inspire and motivate individuals dealing with Type 1 diabetes. My goal was to guide them towards embracing a healthy and fit lifestyle that fills them with pride. Having navigated the tumultuous journey of almost losing myself to Type 1 Diabetes and struggling to maintain control over my health, I understand the challenges firsthand.

The turning point came when I felt a sense of mastery over the disease and gained confidence in not letting Type 1 Diabetes define who I am or dictate my actions. It was at this juncture that I truly began to live, freed from the limitations imposed by my medical condition.

Experiencing unparalleled happiness, I've made it my mission to share that joy with others. My journey with Type 1 Diabetes inspired the creation of my own consumer packaged goods company, Br'Oats—a protein oatmeal brand close to my heart. Beyond offering a wholesome product, Br'Oats also plays a vital role in giving back, as a percentage of its sales contributes to our nonprofit organization.

Never set yourself back when it comes to achieving something you set your mind to, even something as tough as Type 1 Diabetes. This condition has molded me into someone strong, confident, fearless, brave, and consistent. Rather than a burden, I perceive it as a gift in my life. Reflecting on the lifelong lessons and  principles that Type 1 Diabetes has imparted, I can't fathom where I'd be today without them. No matter what, always remember you are not alone and we can all…
